Dr. McLaughlin will discuss six frequent categories of surgical - orthodontic treatment.
These categories are:

  1. Class II mandibular surgery
  2. Class II maxillary surgery
  3. Class II maxillary and mandibular surgery
  4. Class III mandibular surgery
  5. Class III maxillary surgery
  6. Class III maxillary and mandibular surgery

In each of these categories, the horizontal, vertical and transverse factors related to pre-surgical orthodontic set-up, will be discussed. These three dimensional factors will include the following:

Horizontal Factors

  • Tip
  • Anterior torque
  • Tooth size
  • Space management

Vertical Factors

  • Vertical bracket height
  • Curve of Spee
  • Anterior intrusion versus posterior extrusion
  • Segmental set-up versus full arch set-up

Transverse Factors

  • Posterior torque
  • Arch form
  • Arch coordination
  • Segmental versus full arch set-up

This will be followed by a discussion of the post-surgical considerations in each of the six categories.
